Is the Social Contract Broken?

Before the pandemic hit, fewer than 30 per cent of americans aged forty and under considered it essential to live in a democracy. Do you think it would be fair to say that the social contract between the state and its citizens has been splintered here in the united states? And maybe the pandemic and now this national conversation about race, could they actually be opportunities to patch it up in some way? "If we can't recover that basic idea, then what we're doing isnt democracy anyway"...
