The Owner of the Vineyard
Jesus parable challenges that at the root, there is a reward for following christ. The disciples may have given up many things but they remain continually concerned about pecking orders and the difficulty of self denial. This payment that god gives as the owner of the vineyard is not according to the merit of the work that they have done. Rather, every one who works on the vineyard gets the same reward.
