There's an actual upside to delegating proof of stake. It makes it easier for people to sign up as a machine and join the network. The cost of joining mining has also gone down because you have no civil resistance in the system. Some systems like DFINITY are trying to introduce some sort of neural net that automatically load balances all the stake delegation, but we'll see if it works out.
