The Importance of a Different Pitch in Basketball
There's a funneling effect in the development of sport, such that we generate rules which are as they are. Those rules allow for the most interesting and difficult competitive actions. I think there is a group of people called Superman, that professional NBA players don't look like ordinary human beings. They're genetic freaks. That gives them this enormous advantage. But it's also that our society, whereby people over five for nine get plum jobs, gets some kind of social justice system at play. So I'd appeal to something like Michael Waltz' idea of spheres of justice - where you go on an area of being less than flat or less than six feet tall.
