Burke's Career in British Politics
When Burke entered Parliament in 1765, the major issues of the day included the British government's attempt to tax the American colonies. But also the East India Company's presence in South Asia was hotly debated. Equally, a event in Ireland where Burke came from were proving difficult and controversial in this period. So virtually everything that was to dominate his career was on the table so to speak in 1765 with the exception of the crisis in France which was not too emergent until the latter part of his career. Well we'll get to the French Revolution later, but he was a supporter of the breakaway colonies in America.
