The Importance of Automation in Development Economics
How much of premature deindustrialization is due to automation? I suspect quite a bit of it, but it's been an open question. There are many factors at play. Globalization probably important because many countries ended up competing against China and China exploited cheap labor,. They may have had the wrong macroeconomic policies like overvalued exchange rates that made it hard for them to be exporters.
