The James Lang Theory of Emotion
According to folk psychology. there's a stimulus so the stimulus causes a subjective experience in this case it's going to be fear right that subjective experience then gives rise to a cognitive appraisal could be conscious or subconscious like oh dear I guess would be the appraisal in this case which then leads to a bodily response. Now famously well two psychologists developed what's called the James Lang theory of emotion and they reverse these key elements of the folk psychological belief. Our thoughts and bodily reactions are caused by the subjective experience the feeling causes the behavior.
