There was a sense through all of this, through cameos and movies and marrying Padma Lakshmi that maybe this whole fatwa thing was over with. But when Homani died and a reform movement emerged in Iran there were talks between the Iranians and the Brits to restore relations which centered on lifting the fatwa. The current Supreme Leader in 2017 was asked as one does in a fatwa whether Homani's fatwa was still valid. And in 2017 I told a comedy said that the imams fatwa is as it was.
