The Importance of Emotion in Art
The artist should indeed, above all things, imitate the spirit of nature. Only and so far as he seizes the spirit and vitally imitates it, has he himself created anything of truth. There's this notion that beauty has on raging passions that gives its form to art. Here again, you have the artist encapsulating in the beautiful form the raging action of that that reveals the truth of things.
