The Coloreds and the New Constitution of France
There was widespread fear that free colored rights were the first step to dismantling slavery. Gregoir forced through approval of the colored petition, but when it hit the full assembly, he was shouted down. In january 17 90, san domain received permission from the royal ministry to elect a colony wide assembly. The whites of san domain took this to mean that self government was on the way.
