The Unique Organ of the Liver
The liver is a very forgiving organ. The more the insults you throw at it, it tries to cope with it and regenerate. But if you go beyond a threshold of insults to the liver, at some point the regenerative power ceases and then you start developing chronic liver damage. When it comes to stopping alcohol, there are multiple studies done over decades that proves that stopping alcohol reverses fatty liver or prevents further alcoholic hepatitis. So we've had patients who have completely stopped quit alcohol who had reached a stage of cirrhosis - they have actually reversed their chronic liver disease just by stopping alcohol.
