The Role of Rationality in Speech Acts
Habermas distinguishes speech acts from simple non linguistic activities on the basis of two characteristics. First, that the former are self interpreting actions with a reflexive structure. Second, that they are directed toward illocutionary goals that cannot have the status of a purpose to be achieved in an inner worldly way.
