Kome's Courtiers Leaped the Harris Treaty to the Daimyo Warlords Around Japan
A group of Kome's courtiers took a fateful step to advise the emperor at this critical juncture. Konoe Tadahiro advocated for taking a letter Kome had written to the shogun, laying his opposition to the Harris Treaty out and leaking it in essence to the various Daimyo warlords around Japan. It was clear to all involved that this was a major step directly bucking the orders of the shogun. There were many more moves to be made along the way but the process by which, in just ten years, the court and bakafu would clash has begun.
