The Language of Galileo
Before Galileo, there was not much of seeing science primarily as a mathematical enterprise. According to Galileo, that right way is looking at it mathematically. So on this story, the success of the scientific revolution depends on a creator who loves beautiful mathematics and creates a world expressing his intelligence. And so we have a story as to why elegant mathematics is useful, it's because God used it to write the world.
