"I realized lying in bed there in Brooklyn plenty street that the book had to say what it was all about at some place so I began to write and out came the 12 steps," he says. "When they appeared there was a terrific uproar but as a result of the uproar again the constructive came out." He adds: "We never could have produced it ourselves well would you sum up the writing of the first part of the big book for us?"
