The Conquest of Scotland

The Romans fought in close order formation, but the local tribes used guerrilla warfare. The Roman tendency to stop fighting during the winter meant that they didn't really consolidate their gains every year. They had to almost start again each year, moving forward. Eventually, Agricola is recalled to Rome, and his troops are mostly pulled out of Scotland.
