Orchestras are impacted by what I was calling the identity crisis on some really profound levels. The most immediate is going to be financial. Orchestra finances are impacted a great deal by how well an orchestra engages with its audience. How many of them are in a tough spot right now financially? The vast majority.
Gustavo Dudamel brought classical music to the masses in Los Angeles. Now he’s announced that he’s taking his talents to New York, which could revive classical music on one of its biggest stages.
