One explanation is that this is done as a pretext to unleash a tack on ukraine. I don't think puti needs any sort of justification or reason to do that. Another very conspiracy minded idea is that the ultra nationalists did this against one of their own. And the fact that the f s b has supposedly solved this crime within 24 hours means that we may never find out who is responsible. All of those hypotheses remain equally potentially valid.
