Charles I and Oliver Cromwell - The Politics of Personality
There is no doubt that at least two figures, King Charles Charles I and Oliver Cromwell, with a mission, certain type of charisma, do seem to run through the story. Do we think about those two figures differently now from the way that we might have thought about them say 50 years ago? We sometimes sort of boil down an incredibly complicated and protracted period into sort of the politics of personalities. And I think actually what's terrific about the two books you've just been discussing is there are ordinary people, but everyone is in extraordinary times.
