The Power of Imagination

I think for me, this goes back weirdly to my training as a medievalist. Carolyn Bynum's work taught me so much about the ways in which historical scholarship is actually really creative. I don't think of history and poetry as separate. They are translating forms of experience into something that feels like a whole. The poem is not real at the same time it is speaking to truth.
