The American West and the American Missions in the 1870s

In 18 70, he joins clarence king's fortieth parallel surveyclimes. Conde settles a running debate amongst the scientists about glaciers in the american west. And later on, watkins takes pictures for george davidson's geodetic survey. These become kind of convenient symbols for settlers who are sensitive to the depth of their own local histories. I'm trying to show how closely photography was bound up in these processes.
