Eternal life is not given as a reward to those who say, look how righteous i am. Even if they're right that they have done deeds of charity, still we cannot suppose that eternal life goes to those who are humble. So this raises the question, well, can we rely what can we place our trust in at this final moment? What can we rely on for eternal life?
