The History of French Cinema
In the early 1900s, they had the largest production company for cinema in the world. 40% of their films were actually shown in the United States. But interestingly enough, all of this basically came to a halt by World War I. By the time we come out of World War I, we're almost into the talkies. And just like in the U.S., certain actors that had been stars of the silent films were able to transition to sound,. but some who had horrible, little squeaky voices.
