50 thousand black bohemians lived in the bahamas at the time, and were ruled over by a white alead of about ten thousand who lived entirely in the capital of nassau. The indigenous inhabitants of the bahama had been the lucaans, part of the tino people who inhabited the west indies. When columbus first arrived in 14 92, they were forcibly remove from their land and enslaved in the spanish colony of hispaniola. And many died of disease and starvation, murdered by european greed. After the american revolution, some loyalists to the crown moved their plantations and their slaves to the bahamian population.
