World's fairs and expositions had become big events that were held in big cities around the world. New york hadn't had any kind of world fair since the 18 53 crystal palace ixhibition. A group of business men had the idea to host one here in new york, and they formed the new york world's fair corporation. They chose as their leader the colorful former new York city police chief, a man named grover walen.
