The Name of God Is I Am
The name of God translated in all caps is I am. It speaks to his nature as being utterly self-determining and self-reliant. He can only identify himself by reference to himself, he says. In the passage that we just read, Jesus has chosen to identify, to commit himself to work with broken humans.
