How to Define Consciousness
When I was eight or nine years old, I had this memory of looking in the mirror and realizing at that point that eventually I would die. And from that single moment of realization, a whole raft of questions just came rushing forth. Like, well, where was I before I was born? Who am I? Why am I me and not somebody else? What is this thing that is in mind? When I was a teenager, many of my friends would just argue about things like free will and the mind and consciousness. And I think I've just been lucky in being able to continue to be interested in these fundamental questions for many, many years since then and actually making a career from it
