The Origins of Random Processes
In the 90s, financial physicists built trading systems that tried to infer the organization of a dynamical system from past performance. If everybody's doing this and if everybody's doing the same thing, these processes are no longer random, they become correlated. In those correlations came financial disaster. It's absolutely worth investigating because if you do discover that there is order underlying the randomness, there's an organization in the randomness then you've probably learned something important.
