The Critical Period for Language Learning

In 1935, Conrad Lorenz coined the phrase critical period to describe imprinting behavior in Snow geese. He was referring to that long lasting attachment that happens but only within the first 48 hours after hatching. And so that window of time where the animal is much more sensitive to their environment and able to form these long lasting memories he called the critical period.
