What Is the Connection Between the Egyptians and the Sea Peoples in the Egyptian Texts?
Linguist Rostislav Oreshko says there is a direct path from something like Mycenaean Donatwe and Akaiwe to how they would end up as Danuna and Equish or Weshish. The Egyptians who wrote those texts identified at least some of Meremneptah and Rameses III's opponents as having come from the Aegean, he writes. But this is actually where it starts to get really complicated: Who do those terms actually refer to? In the Egyptians called some group of people Danuna, and they called themselves Danaioi, what did they mean when they said that? And what brought them to Egypt?
