What if Our Star Goes Supernova?
Five-year-old asks what would happen if our star went supernova next to the supermassive black hole in the centre of our galaxy. Super nova is one of the end stages of a star, when it gets so massive that it collapses gravitationally. In order for that to happen, you have to have a lot more mass than our sun does. You need like eight times the mass of our sun. And j j doesn't have to worry. Our sun is not going to go super nova. So thank you, lowell, for encouraging the scientific curiosity in your children and fueling human progress.
