Kathleen McLaughlin is the author of Blood Money, The Story of Life, Death and Profit Inside America's Blood Industry. She was inspired to write her book after being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that requires periodic infusions of a drug made from parts of other people's blood. "I went on a quest to figure out who are selling blood plasma that makes my own medication that keeps me alive," she says.
