The human being must build and develop a healthy ethical awareness in order to increase his sense of personal worth, responsibility, and freedom. The biblical story of Adam and Eve pictures how ethical insight and self-awareness are born at the same time. We are also beings able to stand outside the present, learn from the past, and plan for the future. To fulfill these potentialities is to gain a sense of selfhood.
