Lincoln's First Move Toward Emancipation

Lincoln is riding in a carriage alongside two members of his cabinet, navy secretary gideon wells and secretary of state william seward. They happen to be on their way to a funeral for the very young son of the secretary of war, edwin stanton. And this funeral is going to carry the body of young james stanton to the same burial ground where the remains of lincoln's son, willy lincoln had been temporarily interred. 11 year old willye l Lincoln had died in february of typhoid. He probably typhoid because union soldiers encamped in d c had macked out the city's sewage capacity.
