Is Your Teacher Paying the Temple Tax?
This advice was relevant to jewish christians while the temple was still standing, and they could go there and make an offering at the altar. But it lost the significance when the temple was destroyed. Jesus implies in this passage that he does not need to pay the temple tax, but is willing to do so any way to avoid giving offence. And this principle extends from him to his followers, christians, who are also sons of god.
