The Confabulation of Choices

Sometimes it's a bit hard to sort of differentiate which face they're talking about. But sometimes you find these telltale signs of this being a confabulation or something they construct afterwards. So if there are two faces, one with earrings and one without, they pick the one without earrings. And when I hand over the face that has earrings, they say, oh, I really like how this one looks. And I especially like the earrings. It can't have been earrings because they were sitting on the one they initially rejected. In other words, people are ending up justifying a choice they didn't make. Yes, and they do this with apparent ease.
