The Wilderness Act of 1964

In the middle of the twentieth century, as our national war against fire sees the country, so did an obsession with wilderness. Congress was specific in defining what wilderness is. In wilderness, you can't run a chain saw, or drive a car or build a road an free. These are areas where humans do not direct what goes on in the environment. It is the forces of nature that affect the environment. This idea of wildernessra of land untouched by human hands erases the long tory of humans living in and shaping those ego systems.
