Shakyabu's parents told him they would be leaving the apartment and leaving San Francisco. His family had to sell or give away most of their possessions, even their furniture. They were taken by train to a detention center on the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. Shaking his family spent four months there, sharing one room with another family of four.
