The Intersection of Identities in the Past

There's no reason to assume people in the past were any less conflicted, multiple or intentional about the way that they went about saying who they were in the world. Even in antiquity, those multiple identities could be and were manipulated by individuals depending on their circumstance. So you're also an anglicized mom and an American expat mom. Like those different kinds of identities can all intersect with each other.
