The Problem With Wind and Solar

Are we being too pessimistic about renewables, carbon capture, nuclear and other things? I'm not against green energy or you know any other technology like that but I'm what bothers me is the other side where we're voluntarily depriving ourselves of the established technology. Wind and solar base grid is just simply not practical without either a backup at the moment with large Asian gas or with storage. The wood pellet industry has a very very good PR operation which managed to persuade the government that it was carbon neutral in some way.
