Napoleon's Political Chameleon
There's never any clear sense of ideology for Napoleon, particularly in the early years during the revolution. It doesn't matter too much as he goes forward, what the cause is, just so long as he's going forward and he's going up. Ultimately I'd describe Napoleon as Machiavellian. The ends absolutely justify the means all the way through Napoleon's life.
