The Limits of Quantum Mechanical Materials
In a solid, now you have a whole spectrum of energy levels. There's lots of very, very fine gradations allowed there. So materials can absorb low energy electrons because there's a very,very fine mesh of energy levels and so on. But the other side of the coin are materials like insulators. Glass is not a conductor because it has a large gap between these energy levels.
