The Transition From Academic Science to Clinical Science
In the early 2000s, 20 teens, we were seeing a lot of wounded young people coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. The government funding agencies invested heavily in the development of this technology. But at some point, it became clear that that form of investment wasn't enough or time scales weren't long enough to translate academic science into clinical reality. In 2016, a couple of major efforts shifted attention from the academic to the commercial setting.
