Inside Exercise

CHAPTER

The Normal Physiology of Type One Diabetes

The body takes up the glucose by the contractile process. We're still trying to work out what the mechanisms are, but it's clear you don't need insulin. Even people with type two diabetes,. they have totally normal glucose uptake. So us and others have shown this during exercise, they're glucose up next normal. And then you start to think about after exercise - that's when you need your muscles going to be more sensitive to insulin. But anyway, the bottom line is these athletes are basically behaving, as you'd expect, a person with with with out type one diabetes. It's just they can't fine tune the glucose quite as well as that non diabetic athlete.
