When Did the 50s Come to an End?

The first man-made satellite is a fast-over New York earlier today. After the war effort, you have a booming US economy. You've got really cool television and entertainment that was now entering into people's homes to revive more of that national identity. But however, when did the 50s come to an end? There are two events here. I'm tied here on when the 1950s came to an end. One of them, I would say, is October 4th, 1957. That was when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the Earth's, the first artificial satellite into space.
