The Effects of Lidocaine Pre-Injection on Vascular Function

The standard approach for pre-treatment is to inject the drug into a non-flowing IV in the hand. Whether the lidocaine is acting by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels or trip V channels themselves, the effect is likely dependent on blood flow around the IV cannula. The doses varied widely in the reviewed studies as I mentioned and it's difficult to explain why there was no clear dosage effect. My guess is that efficacy was largely determined by blood flow in the vein.
