Harry Kubo was a Japanese American farm owner whose family was imprisoned in a northern, California internment camp during World War II. Despite his initial hesitancy Kubo agreed to be the public face of the opposition against the ufw and proposition 14 In september of 1976 The newly created citizens for a fair farm labor law began to flood the street with bumper stickers declaring no on 14 A campaign featured Kubo as its main spokesman and was backed by a war chest of nearly three million dollars Raised by groups like the south central farmers association He focused on a message he knew would resonate with many Californians property rights. His simple message cut through the accusations calling it "I gave up
