The Evolution of Kleptoparasitism

A key condition of kleptoparasiticism is that stealing has to be less costly than foraging. So if fledgling barn owls aren't getting enough food from their parents or they're having trouble finding food on their own, they'll engage in a behavior called nest switching. And these unrelated parents don't seem to be able to tell that they're not their children and just feed them anyway.
