The Rise and Fall of Harvey Milk
In 1977, Harvey Milk became the first openly gay person elected to public office in California. After taking office as a member of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors, he almost immediately returned to fight the Briggs Initiative. Also known as Prop 6, Briggs had been spawned by the campaign to repeal Miami-Dade's gay ordinance.
