I was earning reasonable money at some point and I'm definitely a saver rather than a spender. So I just had the excess money, what do I do with it? I've been a professor and then the goals came later. You know, I don't think people have goals often. Okay, we might not have defined goals, but maybe we're working from some kind of budget. If you have an emergency fund, which I hope most people do, it's good to agree with your partner,. like, what constitutes an emergency to spend from this fund.
